As part of the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario’s ongoing commitment to accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement, CMLTO is releasing two governance-focused initiatives that provide insight into the performance and effectiveness of its Board of Directors.

Independent External Evaluation of the CMLTO Board of Directors

CMLTO completed an independent third-party evaluation of its Board of Directors to assess overall Board effectiveness. This evaluation reflects the Board’s commitment to continuous improvement and public accountability, and supports ongoing efforts to strengthen governance practices in the public interest.

The evaluation process included:

  • Interviews with Board members and key participants
  • Observation of Board and committee meetings
  • Surveys
  • Reviews of Board policies, governance documents, and materials

The completion of an independent third-party evaluation of Board effectiveness aligns with the Ontario Ministry of Health’s College Performance Measurement Framework (CPMF) requirements and demonstrates how effectively CMLTO is fulfilling its mandate to regulate in the public interest.

The results highlight strengths in governance oversight, strategic leadership, accountability practices, and the Board’s continued focus on effective regulation and decision-making. You can access the resource here.

CMLTO Governance Scorecard

CMLTO has also published its Governance Scorecard, a tool developed by the Board of Directors to measure key governance and outcome indicators throughout the year.

The Governance Scorecard supports the Board in monitoring performance, tracking progress on strategic priorities, and evaluating governance effectiveness. It also provides a transparent way for key partners to see how the Board is measuring its own performance and accountability.

Together, the Governance Scorecard and external Board evaluation demonstrate CMLTO’s commitment to strong governance practices, performance measurement, and continuous improvement in service of the public interest. You can access the scorecard here.

Readers are encouraged to explore both resources to learn more about how CMLTO’s Board of Directors evaluates performance, strengthens governance practices, and supports effective regulation in Ontario.
