Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) are one of Ontario’s regulated health professionals. Before practising in Ontario, MLTs must meet the registration requirements established by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). Registration with the CMLTO ensures that an MLT has met the requirements for safe and competent practice. Applications to the CMLTO for registration consist of an online application followed by the submission of supporting documents.
For those interested in registering with the CMLTO, please review the following pages for information about the registration process and requirements.
Previously, CMLTO used terminology referring to Canadian and internationally educated MLTs. Moving froward, and to better align with terminology used across the medical laboratory sector, Applicants will now be categorized based on whether they completed an EQual accredited program, using the terms “EQual Accredited” vs. “Non-EQual Accredited”.
EQual-accredited Applicants completed a Canadian MLT education program that is accredited or admitted by EQual. More information about EQual accreditation can be found here.
Non-EQual-accredited Applicants completed an international MLT education program or a non-traditional educational pathway, such as a science degree or an MLT program that is not currently EQual-accredited.
