Guarantor’s Verification Form and Other Supporting Documents

Public Register Webinars

The CMLTO Public Register lists all MLTs who are authorized to practice in Ontario. Individuals appearing on the Public Register as Practising or Non-practising may use the protected title Medical Laboratory Technologist or its abbreviation MLT. Emergency and As of Right Registration Pathway Updates

As of 2023, regulatory amendments were made that led to 2 additional pathways to CMLTO registration: As of Right and Emergency Registration Class. Please read below for further details on both:

The As of Right registration pathway was created to expedite the registration process for interjurisdictional practitioners who are individuals practising as MLTs in another regulated province in Canada.

The Emergency registration pathway was enabled to allow for the registration of applicants in situations where the normal CMLTO registration processes are significantly interrupted.

How do I become eligible for the Emergency Certificate of Registration?
Emergency certificates can only be issued or renewed when the Ministry of Health or the CMLTO Board of Directors declares an emergency. Before you register for the Emergency class, please contact the CMLTO to confirm if an emergency was declared. For more information, please refer to the Registration Committee Policy 21: Emergency Certificate of Registration available here. Please note that those with Emergency certificates will practise under supervision.

CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment

CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is a type of assessment for internationally educated MLTs to evaluate their academic credentials and work experience. The CSMLS PLA assessment ensures the equivalency of applicants’ education and experience to the Canadian standards. For more information, please click here

CSMLS Certification Examination

Medical laboratory technologist (MLT) certification examinations are administered by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
