About Discipline hearings
A medical laboratory technologist will be referred to the Discipline Committee for a hearing if there is a specified allegation that they committed professional misconduct or may be incompetent. The Discipline Committee consists of public and professional members (i.e., other MLTs). The Committee’s powers are outlined in legislation and they include:
- Suspension or revocation of a registrant’s certificate of registration
- Imposing terms, conditions and limitations on the registrant’s certificate of registration for a specified or indefinite period of time
- Ordering a reprimand
- Requiring the registrant to pay a fine of not more than $35,000 to the Minister of Finance.
- Requiring the registrant to reimburse the College for funding for a patient (if the professional misconduct was the sexual abuse of a patient)
Discipline hearings are often available to the public. If you would like to attend a hearing described below, please contact the CMLTO’s Professional Conduct department by email at hearings@cmlto.com.
