Each year, the CMLTO is happy to recognize and share information about National Medical Laboratory Week 2025, taking place from April 13 to 19. This week is intended to highlight the critical contributions that Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) and other laboratory professionals make to patient care.

How CMLTO is Participating
Part of the CMLTO’s public protection mandate includes transparency and public engagement.

As such, throughout Lab Week, the CMLTO will be sharing information about medical laboratory professionals, the medical laboratory sector, and how national and provincial level advocacy associations are participating on our social media channels. We encourage you to stay tuned and engage with our posts:

Advocacy for Medical Laboratory Professionals
Advocacy for the medical laboratory profession takes place on both national and provincial levels:

  • The Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is the national professional society for Canada’s medical laboratory professionals
  • The Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) represents the interests of Medical Laboratory Professionals in Ontario with government, regulatory bodies, educational institutions, health care professions and other stakeholders.

CSMLS Celebrations
The CSMLS has put together information and other resources to spread the word about the contributions of medical laboratory professionals, which you can access on their dedicated Lab Week website. Resources include a social media toolkit, social media resources including shareable posts and graphics, and a DIY toolkit with games, posters, statistics, virtual meeting backgrounds, and other marketing material.

Each year, the CSMLS runs “Light Up for Lab Week” as a national celebration. This involves landmarks across Canada—including the iconic CN Tower in Toronto, lighting up indigo blue to celebrate laboratory professionals across the country.

Check out the full list of participating landmarks to see if your area is participating on the CSMLS web link above.

The MLPAO’s #TestingforLife Campaign
This year, the MLPAO’s Lab Week campaign is #Testing4Life. This initiative raises public awareness about the role that lab professionals play in delivering timely and accurate healthcare. The campaign emphasizes that behind every test result is a skilled professional making a difference in someone’s life.

Thank you to all Medical Laboratory Professionals
The CMLTO would like to thank all medical laboratory professionals for the work they do protecting the public, and encourage you to learn more about our specific role as a regulatory body within the medical laboratory sector: What We Do – CMLTO.
