HIRING RECENT GRADUATES

New graduates of medical laboratory technology programs receive a letter outlining the details of the registration process for the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).

The CMLTO offers an online application process. To practise medical laboratory technology in Ontario and use the restricted title, an individual must first hold a Practising certificate of registration with the CMLTO.

New graduates can work as medical laboratory assistants or medical laboratory technicians until they hold a Practising certificate of registration with the CMLTO.

Hiring MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS

Employers should confirm all applicants for Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) positions hold a Practising certificate of registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). You do this by checking the CMLTO Public Register.

Employers are notified if any MLTs in their facilities have been suspended for non-payment of fees.

Additionally, Employers should be aware that MLTs are required to notify the CMLTO of any changes in address (home or business) or employer.

Hiring MEDICAL LABORATORY ASSISTANTS AND TECHNICIANS

Until medical laboratory technicians and assistants are regulated health professionals in Ontario, the CMLTO Voluntary Roster of Registered Medical Laboratory Technicians is available for your potential hiring needs.
