To assist with health human resource planning in Ontario and Canada, the College has been working on initiatives with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).
The College has been working with CIHI to develop a medical laboratory technologist (MLT) database to support health human resources planning. CIHI has just released its newest statistics on the MLT profession.
The database details the number of registered MLTs in the 7 provinces that regulate the profession (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta) as well as the number in the remaining jurisdictions that do not regulate. It includes data on their supply, education, employment, certification, and key demographic indicators in 2008.
