To start the process, you need to get a CSMLS assessment application. The CSMLS charges a $25.00 non-refundable fee for an assessment application and information package sent through the mail. However, the package (called the Information Handbook for Prior Learning Assessment) can be downloaded free of charge from the CSMLS website. The application form is in this handbook.

When you apply, the CSMLS will open a file. All transcripts, letters, course content, and other documentation must be submitted and complete before this file can be assessed. Failure to provide necessary documents will delay the CSMLS evaluation performed in Step 4. Your file will be held open for a period of twelve months. Reapplication will be required after that time.

The application fee (which includes the CSMLS evaluation in Step 4) is $425.00 and is non-refundable. This fee is taken as soon as the application is received by the CSMLS.
