All members of the CMLTO use the designation MLT. The majority of Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT's) work in hospital laboratories. Licensed laboratories are comprised of all of the hospital laboratories, private laboratories, public health clinics and Canadian Blood Services laboratories.
Licensed laboratories are governed by four very important acts of Parliament.
Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act (LSCCLA)
Regulated Health Professions Act and Medical Laboratory Technology Act
Public Hospitals Act
These four acts are closely intertwined, but each has a particular focus.
Together, they ensure that appropriate rules and laws are in place to hold the people managing and working in Ontario's laboratories accountable to the highest standards of care.
