The CMLTO exists for the protection of the public’s right to safe, high-quality health care through self-regulation and leadership of the medical laboratory technology profession. The Council establishes CMLTO’s strategic direction and the outcomes that will lead self-regulation forward in the interest of public safety.

To achieve an effective mix of skills and abilities, the Council has established selection criteria for Council Member nominations and appointments.These criteria are designed to increase understanding of the qualifications and expectations of Council Members and serve as a guide for candidates and for those who are nominating, and being nominated, for Council positions. The CMLTO team is committed to working effectively with the Council, the public, each other, members, government, stakeholders, and other health professionals to serve the public interest through achievement of the CMLTO Critical Outcomes/Ends Policy Direction established by the CMLTO Council.
The CMLTO Council refreshes its Critical Outcomes/Ends Policy Direction approximately every three to four years. The Council ensures that its direction is aligned with the legislation in Ontario. This Council policy sets the mandate and focus for the Registrar & CEO and team. In order to achieve maximum results, each year CMLTO refreshes its specificoperational outcomes, milestones, related tactics and operational plans designed toachieve the Critical Outcomes/Ends Policy direction.

MLT late fees and suspensions

Members wishing to renew their membership can still do so until 11:59 pm EST, on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at www.cmlto-onlineservices.com, however, late fees have now been added to renewal fees.
All MLTs who have not renewed their membership by 11:59 pm EST on Sunday, February 7, 2021, will have their certificate of registration suspended. If a member’s certificate of registration is suspended, the Registrar & CEO will notify the member and their employers by mail. Upon suspension, the certificate of registration expires, and the former member is no longer authorized to practise medical laboratory technology in Ontario.
Further, a permanent notation of the suspension (and subsequent reinstatement, if applicable) will appear in the MLT’s record in the CMLTO Public Register. A list containing the names of all suspended medical laboratory technologists will be published in the FOCUS newsletter.
COVID-19 vaccine resources for healthcare workers

As a trusted source of information for Canadians, healthcare workers will be integral in ensuring vaccine uptake across the population. 19 To Zero is committed to supporting healthcare workers to:
- Get educated about COVID-19 vaccines so you can feel confident in your decisions and recommendations related to vaccination
- Get vaccinated yourself to keep others safe and demonstrate your commitment to ending the pandemic
- Get skilled at having constructive conversations about vaccination with patients, so that every healthcare interaction becomes an opportunity for you to support broad vaccine uptake.
Registration renewal reminder

The CMLTO's Annual Registration Renewal for 2021 began, November 1, 2020. All medical laboratory technologists registered in Ontario must renew their CMLTO registration online by December 31, 2020.
The Annual Registration Renewal notice, which includes renewal instructions, was sent by postal mail in the second week of October. Members can get started by logging into https://www.cmlto-onlineservices.com/, or by clicking the red button above.

How CMLTO manages consultations & feedback

As part of its public protection mandate, the CMLTO is strongly committed to transparency and ensuring that its regulatory processes and information about members can be accessed easily by the public, by applicants, and medical laboratory technologists (MLTs). Additionally, the CMLTO is committed to engaging with the public about the College’s role in public protection.
