CMLTO Submission to the Standing Committee on Social Policy Legislative Assembly of Ontario

CMLTO submitted comments to the Standing Committee on Social Policy regarding Bill 60, Your Health Act, 2023 (the “Act”).

The goals of the submission included:

  • A response to the proposed inclusion of Medical Laboratory Technologists (“MLTs”) under Schedule 2 of the Act;
  • A request to address a long-standing issue related to the Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act, 1991 (the “LSCCLA”);
  • A proposal to address health human resource issues within Ontario laboratories.

Stressors to human health resource capacity within Ontario laboratories have emerged during a time when the importance of the laboratory sector has become increasingly apparent to the public within the context of COVID-19 testing.

The CMLTO supports the Ontario Government’s focus on ensuring public access to safe, high-quality medical laboratory services at all times, including through the recent introduction of an Emergency Class of Registration, which is currently in the consultation stage, as directed by the Ministry of Health.
